First responder training

The Community Health Department at KCMC reached out to Northumbria at the request of the local Police Commissioner to provide teaching of emergency first aid to provide skills, to police officers who may be required to respond to a road traffic accident.

Since then, Peter Smith, senior Intensive Care nurse, has provided a First Responder course to police officers and taxi drivers in the Moshi District. In 2022 the training was also launched in Kifaru, a remote rural area, which is a road traffic accident hotspot. More than 60 motorcycle taxi drivers attended the course and were given a high-visibility jacket to promote safety.
