A group of contractors from Integrated Health Projects (IHP), an established joint venture between VINCI Construction UK and Sir Robert McAlpine, took on the Three Peaks Challenge in aid of Bright Northumbria Healthcare Charity last month.
The team scaled Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon within 48 hours, raising a staggering £6,500 to the cause.
Andy Maxwell, an engineer who was part of the team, said: “We’ve been doing work up at Hexham for a few years now. Last year we completed the coast-to-coast cycle to raise money for Bright, this year we wanted another challenge.
“It was a bucket list moment for a lot of us and most people jumped at the opportunity, especially as we were giving back to the hospitals.”
Bright is the official charity of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, providing a bit of extra brightness to its patients, staff and communities. They have helped to fund a huge range of projects, including transforming ward spaces to make patients with Alzheimer’s feel safer. Community is at the heart of what they do.
Andy continued: “We’re currently working on the oncology, endoscopy, dentistry and women’s health services at Hexham. Across these departments, our family members or ourselves have all been there, and it really resonates with us.”
“We’re really lucky to have the support from friends and family, but also our supply chain partners who have helped to deliver the project around Hexham and North Tyneside.
“We’ve smashed our target this year which we’re really happy with.”
It’s thanks to the team of climbers that this large sum of money will allow the charity to continue their mission to support Northumbria Healthcare’s patients and staff.
Head of Bright charity, Rob Graham said: “It’s no easy feat to scale one of these mountains, never mind all three. What the team have achieved is incredible.
“We’re so grateful for the team and would like to say a huge thanks to those at IHP for taking on this tremendous challenge, not to mention all those who donated to the cause.
“This generous sum will have a profound impact on the work we do to enhance patient experience and staff wellbeing in the trust.”
