Creating a brighter environment for staff breaks

Kind donations to Bright Charity have made the refurbishment of a staff break room possible.

North Tyneside’s urgent treatment centre had a staff room which was unfit for purpose. Before the conversion, it was a paediatric resuscitation area – a space which held sad memories for some of the team.

The space felt cold and clinical, with only a couple of arm chairs and a small table. It wasn’t enough for the large team of nurses, GPs, and domestic staff.

Bright got to work enhancing the environment. We painted the walls, brought in comfortable furniture, and added an LED skylight to brighten up the room. There are no windows in the space, so this projects the image of a blue sky above them.

One member of staff said: “The refurb in our staff room has had such a positive impact for me during my break. It’s a much more sociable space, 100 times better than before, and we’re very lucky to have had this change.”

Bright’s mission is to enhance the patient experience and wellbeing of our staff. Having a calm environment to rest during their shift means that staff provide even better services to our patients.
