Befriending volunteers

As a befriending volunteer you will provide valuable social interaction through the provision of activities for our older patients who may be feeling isolated, lonely, or those who just need a chat, within our hospital wards.

What tasks can this role include?
– Build up a relationship with patients so that they are confident and comfortable talking to you
– Provide patients with the opportunity to participate in activities that are considerate of their interests and ability
– Work in partnership with the ward team e.g. identifying potential participants, highlighting issues
– Contribute to ideas to develop your role and new activities for patients
– Respect different cultural values and working in a non-discriminatory manner
– Attend regular supervision meetings
– Alert key staff to any issues of concern
