Michelle goes the extra mile for Bright Charity

A North Tyneside fundraiser has raised more than £700 for Bright Charity after completing an incredible 146.8-mile walking challenge in memory of two special people in her life.

Michelle set herself the challenge of walking at least 99 miles throughout June to honour her beloved Nanna, who would have celebrated her 99th birthday this year. Since losing her Nanna in 2020, Michelle has marked her birthday month with an annual fundraising walk, supporting causes that were close to both their hearts.

Remembering her Nanna as a caring and compassionate woman who brought joy to so many, Michelle pledged to complete one mile for every year of her life during June 2026. However, she went far beyond her target, covering an impressive 146.8 miles by the end of the month.

This year, Michelle chose to dedicate her challenge to Bright Charity in support of Palliative Care services at North Tyneside General Hospital. Her fundraising efforts were also in memory of her dear friend Kathryn, who sadly died on 1 January 2026.

Michelle decided to support Bright after witnessing first-hand the exceptional care, comfort and support provided by hospital staff and the charity during Kathryn’s illness. The experience inspired her to give back and help ensure other patients and families continue to receive the same compassionate care

Thanks to Michelle’s determination and generosity, she has raised more than £700 and counting. The money will help Bright Charity fund enhanced facilities and services for patients and their families, while also supporting NHS staff to provide the very best care..

Michelle’s fundraising achievement is a powerful tribute to the people she loved, turning remembrance, friendship and compassion into a lasting legacy that will benefit others.

Everyone at Bright Charity would like to thank Michelle for her incredible support and congratulate her on this outstanding achievement. Her efforts are making a real difference to patients, families and staff across North Tyneside.
