Celebrating staff who have achieved their BSL Level 1 training

A new cohort of amazing staff who have completed their BSL Level 1 training, organised by our D/deaf awareness project officer Margaret Robertson, were celebrated this week.

Beth Webster, Theresa Martinez, and Elizabeth Dunn all received their certificate which will serve as a constant reminder of the time they’ve dedicated to learning this new language and enhancing their communication skills – benefitting patients, visitors and fellow colleagues with hearing loss.

Beth said, “the opportunity to learn BSL through work is a fantastic opportunity and I feel very lucky that I was able to take part.
“I really enjoyed the classes, and we learned a lot of very useful things along the way.”

We are committed to increasing understanding about the needs of our D/deaf patients, importantly, improving the delivery of care to them. That’s why it’s so important that we offer BSL training to our staff, strengthening our communication and enabling a more inclusive patient experience.
