Funding supports better care for patients with Parkinson’s in our hospitals
Time critical medications play a huge role in Parkinson’s disease and a delay of only 30 minutes can have a severe effect on a patient’s ability to function.
A bid for funding was submitted by the Practice Development team for patient wristbands, which are used to alert staff that the patient has time critical medication. It also reassures patients and relatives that our clinical teams understand the importance of delivering that medication at the right time.
Thanks to donations from our kind supporters, Bright has been able to purchase these wristbands for patients with Parkinson’s.
Feedback from the team on Ward 3 at the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital has been very positive.
One staff member said: “The green wristband was a great visual aid to remind us to not only administer critical medications on time, but was often used by the nutritional assistant to ensure patients had been screened for a safe swallow prior to providing nutrition.
“Seeing the green wristband always reminded me to set an alarm to ensure there were no delays to critical medications.”
