Bright is an incredible charity that supports the delivery of some amazing projects across Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

Seeing the benefit it brings for in-patients, at what can often be a very distressing and disorientating time, really inspires me to want to help raise money.

I was lucky enough to be chosen again in this year’s ballot, setting a new challenge for myself in running the full marathon.

Last year I got to run the half marathon at Kielder, and I’ve taken on the Great North Run before. I’ve always ran casually over the years; I really enjoy getting out for a run as it clears my mind.

I love training at the gym, but I think running is the best form of exercise for your mental health. It’s a good chance to decompress from the day and get the endorphins going.

To prep for the Kielder marathon I’ve been running three times a week, working on endurance as well as speed. I’m not aiming for any particular time, just to complete it!

My top tips would be to stick to your plan, and even if you don’t feel up to the full distance, just try and cover some miles. Enjoy the day – I love the atmosphere on race day! Wish me luck!

If you want to support Laura on her first ever full marathon, donate to her fundraiser via JustGiving.
