Charitable funds bring VeinViewer devices to Northumbria

The VeinViewer Flex is a compact, portable, and non-invasive imaging device that uses infrared light to clearly visualize veins.

It enhances first-attempt cannulation success rates, reduces the need for alternative access methods by more than 30%, and significantly improves patient experience.

The technology is particularly valuable for children, needle-phobic patients, and individuals with fragile or difficult-to-access veins. In addition, it enables real-time assessment of vein quality and condition.

Eliza Fox, Northumbria’s medical devices education facilitator, said: “Several clinical teams trialled the device and provided overwhelmingly positive feedback. However, the cost of equipping every department individually proved prohibitive.

“To address this, we proposed integrating VeinViewer Flex units into our hospital equipment libraries, ensuring 24/7 access across all sites.

“We are delighted that our funding bid with the Bright Charity was successful and look forward to making the devices available for use in the near future.”
