Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is investing £35 million to build a new state-of-the-art hospital in Berwick-upon-Tweed. The new community hospital will be located on the site of Berwick Infirmary and is due to open during the summer of 2025.
Further information about the new hospital can be found here.
Project and purpose of the artwork
As part of this development, there are plans to further enhance this building with a mobile sculpture to hang in atrium near the reception and main entrance.
The aims of this artwork will be to:
- Champion art as a key aspect of the healing environment
- Create a sense of welcome and improve the experience for staff, patients, and visitors entering the hospital.
- Support wellbeing
- Have a connection to Berwick
The project is funded and supported by Northumbria Healthcare’s Bright charity.
Location details
The artwork will be sited in the atrium/reception area near the main entrance to the hospital.
The location will see a busy daily footfall and will be one of the first impressions of the hospital as patients, visitors and staff enter the building.
