#SheRunsFree – Krinzia’s journey to Kielder

Running has always been more than just exercise for me. It’s given me resilience, connection, both with myself and others, and the space to look after my wellbeing . It’s where I’ve met some of my closest friends and discovered just how much I can achieve when I push myself.
But for many women, something as simple as going for a run isn’t always safe. That’s why I applied for the #SheRunsFree initiative – a new campaign led by BOLDI Run and Altra Running Europe in partnership with Kielder Marathon. The aim is to raise awareness of the barriers women face when running, especially around safety, and to share solutions so more women feel free to run without worry.
Alongside running, I work as a mental health and wellbeing coach, supporting people to manage stress and make positive lifestyle changes. I see every day how confidence, community, and movement can transform lives, and how education and knowledge plays a huge role in breaking down barriers.
#SheRunsFree is about more than running shoes or races. It’s about education and awareness: helping women feel safer, challenging the culture around running, and showing that when women move together, change begins.
My journey began with a training weekend in Keswick, where I joined seven other incredible women for a packed few days of running and connection. It began with the Whinlatter Parkrun, next was an 8K fell run up and down Walla Crag, finishing off with a 15K loop around Derwentwater.
Beyond the miles, what stood out were the conversations. Together we talked openly about safety, confidence, and what it means to reclaim running as women. We laughed, supported each other, and left feeling inspired.
Kielder holds a very special place in my heart. It was my first ever running event, and this year I had originally planned to take on the full marathon. An injury means that dream is on hold for now, but I’m so proud and excited to be returning this October for the Kielder Half Marathon as part of the She Runs Free team.
It also feels extra meaningful because the event is supported by Bright Northumbria Healthcare Charity, who do so much to champion health and wellbeing across our region. To be running at Kielder with the backing of both #SheRunsFree and raising funds for Bright brings my personal journey, my work, and my passion for wellbeing together in one place.
I’m so grateful to be part of this movement. Running has given me so much — but I know not every woman feels safe stepping out the door in her trainers. By being part of She Runs Free, I hope to help raise awareness, share experiences, and encourage women everywhere to take up space: on the trails, in the dark, and anywhere we choose to run #StayOutThere #SheRunsFree
I can’t wait to continue this journey towards Britain’s most beautiful race at Kielder this October with our fantastic team of ladies!
