Great North Run trio raises £2,000 for charity after son’s diabetes diagnosis

A family who received life-changing support from Northumbria Healthcare has raised more than £2,000 for Bright Charity by taking part in this year’s Great North Run.
Harrison Moffat, alongside his friend Bobby and five-year-old son Leonardo, completed the adult and mini Great North Run events to give back to the teams who helped their family through a difficult time.
Last year, Leonardo was unexpectedly diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, just one week before the birth of Harrison’s second son.
Reflecting on their experience, Harrison said: “The care that we received from the team at North Tyneside was amazing. The nurses and whole team supported us through one of the toughest times in our lives, and to give a little bit back is amazing.”
Together, the trio raised more than £2,000 for Bright, helping to support patients, families and staff across Northumbria Healthcare.
Harrison added: “I hope the money we’ve raised goes to support other families who have very tough experiences like that.
“Bright are an amazing charity, and they really do go the extra mile.”
Rob Graham, Head of Charity at Bright, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Harrison, Bobby and Leonardo for taking on this challenge and raising such an amazing amount for Bright. Hearing why they chose to support us makes their achievement even more special.
“Everyone at Bright would like to thank them for their incredible fundraising efforts. The money they’ve raised will help us continue supporting patients, their families and our NHS staff across Northumbria Healthcare, bringing a little extra brightness to people when they need it most.”
