How gifts in wills are enhancing patient care
More than a quarter of Bright Northumbria Healthcare Charity’s income comes from gifts left in wills. These generous legacy donations help fund projects, equipment and enhancements that go beyond NHS funding, improving the experience of care for patients, families and staff across Northumbria Healthcare.
One recent example is the introduction of an OmiVista interactive therapy system on Ward 20 at North Tyneside General Hospital, which supports older people receiving mental health care.
Funded through legacy donations, the innovative system uses interactive light projections to encourage movement, conversation and engagement. Activities can be tailored to patients’ individual interests and abilities, helping staff provide truly person-centred care. Whether it’s an Elvis-themed experience that sparks memories or a virtual fishing activity that encourages participation and discussion, OmiVista creates meaningful opportunities for connection and enjoyment.
For patients, these moments can help reduce isolation, stimulate cognitive activity and promote physical movement. For families and staff, it offers new ways to engage with people in their care and create positive shared experiences.
